Take ibij of litharge plaster, ftss of frankincense, 3iij of red oxide ofiron. Mix, and make a plaster. It is strengthening and stimulant,giving mechanical support to weak muscles and joints.Emulsio Acaclze Arabics. E. D. Gum Arabic Emulsion. Take Jjof sweet almonds, blanched, Ojss of water, Jij of gum arable muci-lage, or ^ij of gum arabic in powder, jiv of sugar ; beat the almondswith the sugar and water, and gradually add the mucilage. It ismuch like milk.Incompatible with tinctures, spirits, acids, and acidulous syrups, suchas squills, oxymel, also with tartaric acid, tartrate of potass, andspirit of nitric ether, and oxymuriate of mercury.Medicinally it forms a good demulcent in febrile irritations, strangury,gonorrhoea, nephritis, &c., in any dose at pleasure. It is also used asa vehicle for other medicines.Emulsio Amygdalae Communis. E. See Mistura Amygdalarum. L.Emulsio Campiiorje. E. Camphor Emulsion, Emulsio camphorata.O. Take 3j of camphor, Jiv each of decorticated sweet almonds,and refined sugar, Jvj of water, to make an emulsion.Incompatible with solution of pure potass, sulphate of magnesia, and
several other salts, which separate the camphor.Medici?ially it is an elegant form of exhibiting camphor, in confluentsmall-pox, scarlatina maligna, &c. The dose is Jss to 31J thrice aday, or as a vehicle for other medicines.Emulsio Effervesckns. Effervescing Emulsion. Take jj gr. x ofsubcarbonate of potass, 5 j syrup of red poppies, 5iij of lemon juice,5 j of almond mixture ; mix, and take it while it effervesces.Medicinally it is expectorant and demulcent.Emulsio Olei Ricini. P. Emulsion of Castor Oil. Take ^vj of castoroil, half the yolk of a fresh egg, 31J of water, jss each oforange-flower water and simple syrup; triturate the yolk of eggwith the oil, add the syrup, and mix intimately. A mild purgative.Emulsio Puhgans cum Jalapa vel Scammoxio. P. PurgativeEmulsion. Take gr. xij of resin of jalap, or of scammony, 5ij ofwhite sugar, triturate well in a marble mortar, then add half theyolk of a fresh egg, continue to triturate, and add by degrees Jv ofgum-arabic emulsion, and ^ij of orange-flower water.Medicinally it is cathartic, the quantity of jalap or scammony to be
varied by circumstances.Emulsio Terebinthin^e. P. Turpentine Emulsion. Take 3j ofrectified oil of turpentine, or ^ij of Cilia turpentine, half the yolkof a fresh egg, ^iv of almond emulsion, and proceed as in the lastpreparation.Medicinally it may be given in blenorrhceu, leucorrhcea, and nephritis.
