BALL

Or, Take 5j of camphor, Jj of nitre, ^ij of James's powder, or anti-monial powder, to make a ball with flour and treacle.

Or, Take ^ij of antimonial powder, $ss of sulphuret of antimony, 3J ofnitre, ^iij of liquorice powder, to form a ball with syrup.

Fever Balls (Alterative). Take Jiv of cape aloes, Jxij of linseed meal,and with a sufficient quantity of treacle form 32 balls. (Pharm.Veterinary College.)

Fever Balls (Diuretic). Take Ibss of yellow resin powdered, §x oflinseed resin, and with a sufficient quantity of treacle form 32 balls.(Pharm. Veterinary College.)

Garlic Balls. Pound a quantity of garlic cloves till they form a paste,which form into balls of gj to gij each with liquorice powder.

Laxative Balls. See Purgative Balls below.

Mange Ball. See Alterative Ball above and Mange.

Mercurial Ball. Take 5j of submuriate of mercury, 3SS of Barbadoesaloes, and make into a ball with mucilage of gum arabic.

Purgative, or Phi/sic Ball. The $ix of Barbadoes aloes, and 5J ofginger, and form into a ball with syrup or treacle.

Or, Take 5xij of Socotrine aloes, 3j each of cream of tartar and pow-dered ginger, and a table-spoonful of olive oil and syrup of buck-thorn to form two or three balls.

Or, Take Jj of Socotrine aloes, 5y of rhubarb, 5j each of jalap andcream of tartar, 3ij of ginger, and 20 drops each of oil of cloves andoil of anise-seeds, to make a mass with syrup of buckthorn.

Or, Take $v of Socotrine aloes, jij of carbonate of soda or preparednatron, jj of aromatic powder, 10 drops of oil of caraway, with sy-rup to make a ball.

Or, Take 3 j of Socotrine aloes, jij of carbonate of soda, 5 j of aromaticpowder, and 10 drops of oil of anise-seeds, to make a ball withhoney.

Or, Take 5vij of Socotrine aloes, gss of Castile soap, 5j of ginger, and10 drops of oil of caraway, to form a ball with syrup.

Or, Take ^vj of Barbadoes aloes, 9j of ginger, to form a ball with softsoap.

Or, Melt ^vij of Barbadoes aloes, and 5iv of hard soap in a slight heat,and add 5j of ginger and a little sweet oil.

Restorative Balls. Take ftss of Peruvian bark, §ij each of grains ofparadise, gentian, and calumbo ; make into a mass with honey, anddivide into 16' balls. Dose one every morning.

Or, Take jiv of Peruvian bark, jij of mithridate or diascordium, Jjeach of canella alba, snake root, and chamomile, all in powder; forminto a mass with honey, and divide into six balls. Dose one nightand morning for loss of appetite.
