As to the Raifins, takethis Rule in general, becaufe they arefrequently in things of this Form, thatin all Cathartic or Detergent Compo-rtions, thole which the Grocers fellby the Name of Raifins of the Sun,are mod proper, becaufe they arelharp and attenuating ; but in all Pec-torals and Vulnerarles, the MalagaRaifins are much to be preferr'd,theybeing more fat, foft and emollient.Which,by the \vay,is a difference ve-ry few attend to, to the great detri-ment of many a good Prescription.

The Hermodaäyls would alfo bemore proper to boil with the Wort, being of as hard and clofe a Textureas the Woods, which therefore beftyield their Virtues by Deco&ion ;they confiding chiefly in a Refinwhich is only to be drawn out by aboiling Liquor, and is not fubjeft toevaporate ; whereas that gentler Mo-tion of Fermentation, is fufficientto divide the Texture of Herbs,Seeds, eye* and is a much better waythan boiling for fuch Ingredients ;becaufe while it takes up thofe Parts,in which their medicinal Virtues con-flit, it is not fo apt to exhale themin fleam. This is a very good Pre-faiption if duly foiiow'á, and made
