' Take Vitriol calciVd to a red-' nefs, | ii. Sal Armoniac, 5 i. Tar-' tar calcin'd, and Quick-lime, ana' I iii. Boil them in a fufficient' quantity of Water to make a" ftrong Lixivium, which ftrain and

* evaporate to a drynefs.' Or,

1 Put into a great earthen Pan' one Part of Quick-lime, and« two Parts of Pot-Afhes, or cal-' cined Tartar. Powder and mix

* them : Pour good ftore of hot

* Water upon your Matter, and

* leaving it in Infufion for five or' ¡ix Hour?, boil it a little ; after-' wards pafs that which is claar,

* thro' a brown Papei^ and evapo-' rate it in a Copper B.ifon, or

* earthen Pan ; there will remain■ at bottom a Salt, which you miift

* put over the Fire in a Crucible ;e it will diflb'.ve and boil until all

* the remaining Humidity is evapo-c rated ; when you find it at the« bottom like Oil, call it into a

* Bafon, and cut it into Piecesf while it is warm : Put thefe Cau-

* teries quickly into a ftrong Glafs

' Bottle, flop it with Wax and a

' Bladder, for the Air would eafily

' diflolve it into Liquor : You mult

' take care to keep it in a dry

The former of thefe is preferable,

This is generally brought to usfrom India, but whether exactlymade according to this Prefcription,is not certain. The chief Reafonswhy that of our own Make is not fomuch in efteem, is becaufe wehave not that Skill in the Polifh,and are more apt to admire whatcomes a great way, befides theBezoar bears fuch a Price here,that there is nothing to be faved bymaking it. It palles for an extra-ordinary Cordial, and is alfo givenin Fevers as an Alexifharmic ; butfuch Qualities can proceed onlyfrom the Sweets, which herein arein large quantities.
