This is a Prefcription originally ofMefue, and ftands in the firft Dif-penfatory of the College, under theTitle of Syrupus de Pomis Regis Sa-faris : It hath received noAlrerationsfince either in the Ingredients ortheir Quantities ; but it hat'i beenlong fo juftly neglecled in Prefcrip-tion, that it is not to be now metwith in the Shops.

Syrupus de Rhabarbaro, Syrup ofRhubarb.

« Take of the bed Rhubarb, and' of Sena Leaves, ana 3| iifs. of

* Violet Flowers m. i. of Cinnamon' 3 ifs. of Ginger 5 Û, of Succory' and Fennel-Waters, ana 11» ¡v.

* Let them fteep a whole Night' warm, and then boil the itrained' Liquor up into a Syrup with ft ii.€ of white Sugar 5 towards the lat-

* ter end mixing with it § ii. of the' folutive Syrup of Rofes.'

This hath but lately been takeninto their Difpenfatory by the Col-lege, and differs here from what itwas formerly, in rejecting the Be-tony Water, becaufe that is not or-dered now to be made at all ; andin putting but | ii. of the Syrup ofRofes, which were iv. before : butthefe are Alterations of no greatmoment 5 and the whole is of noValue, except the Rhubarb, to anyIntention it was defia,n'd for.

Syrupus Rofaceus Solutivus, Solu-tive Syrup of Rofes.c Take ft iv. of boiling Water,

* and ftir into it as many frefh Da-» mask Rofe Leaves as it will con-

* tain: let them ftand together'in a

* warm Infufion for twelve Hours,

' and then prefs it out ftrongly.' Let this again be heated, and new*' Flowers ftirred in and fteeped as• before, and proceed to a third' Repetition of the fame, every' time increafing [he quantity of thé' Flowers put in, in proportion tó' the Liquor, which every time' will increafe almoft one third.' When this is all finifh'd, to fix' parts of the Liquor put four' parts of white Sugar, and boil' into a Syrup with a Bath Hear,' 8. A.*

This is the fame as in the for-mer Difpenfatory of the College,but«at firft was order'd to be re-peated nine times in the Infufion jbut the Shops have been hithertomod accuftomed to make it fromthe clarified Juice of the Rofes, orfrom their Refiduum after Diftilla-tion.

Syrupus è Sueco Rofarum, Syrupof the Juice of Rofes.' This is prepared, without any' Infufion, from tffe expreffed Juice' of the Flowers, with the fame' Proportions of Sugar to the quan-c tity of Juice as dire&ed in the' preceding.'

* clean f vi. of Caraway and Sweet' Fennel Seeds, ana 3 iii. After' thefe are firft fprinkled over with' White-wine, let them be fteeped

* in the above prefcribed Infufion' of Damask Rofes, ft iii. for the

* fpace of two days; then ftrain' the Liquor, and boil it up into« the Confidence of a Syrup with< ft ii. of white Sugar.'
