'Preparations of Simples
The Bottle muft always haverent when ihaked, elfe it will beapt to fly. The Wine will have abrackifh pungent Tafte, not muchunlike what Salt of Amber gives toany Liquor. It is an admirableCleanlèr of all the Vifcera ; andgives place to nothing in a Jaun-dice, or any Obftruitions of theKidneys, or Urinary PalTàges : whichmakes it a great pity that it is notmore in ulè; for there is hardlyany chronic Diftemper wherein itwill not do fcrvice; and even inScrophula's and ftrumousSwellings,a Courfe of it will greatly waftethem, if not quite carry them away :and in Defluxions of Rheum uponthe Eyes, it will do wonders, byturning downwards tholè hot Salts,by their natural Outlets, the Kid-neys, which had forced their waythro the Glands about the Eyes. Itmay be given from g fs. to j ii. ina Dofe.
Spiritus, Sal Volatile, Sc OleumMillepedum; Spirit, Vtdmile Salt,and Oil of Hog-Lice.

The Volatile Salt is the only partthis Procefs produces that is of va-lue ; and this has the Virtues of theMillepedes in.£ubftance, and is goodfor all the purpofes of the foregoingWine. Its Dofe is from iv to xvi gr.in a Bole, which is the beft form forits Adminiftration.
Tinftura Myrrhs?, TinBure of
Myrrh.« Put into a Matrafs, of fine
• Myrrh in Pouder ft i. of Spirit
* of Wine ft iv. invert another Glafs
* into the Mouth of the Matrafs to' make a double Veflel ; lute the' Juncture, and fet it in a gentle' Heat of Sand to extract its Tin-' ¿iure."
This has the Virtues of the Gum,defcrib'd Sen. 1. Clafs 3. N° 70.of the Simples ; but it is feldom giveninwardly : externally it is in greatefteem amongft our Surgeons, forcleanfing foul Ulcers, and to exfoli-ate carious Bones.
Oleum Myrrhse, Oil of Myrrh.' Half fill a Retort with coarfe« Myrrh ; put it to a Receiver, when
• in a Sand-Furnace; give it Fire' by degrees to the greateft. height :' When the Fumes ceafe, let out the'. Fire, and in the Receiver there' will be a fetid Oil, and an acid' Spirit.'
After the fame manner are to beobtain'd the Oils of all fuch likeSubftances ; and they may be reft;-fy'd, as before directed in the Oilif Benjamin ; which makes themmuch pleafanter for Ufe. This isreckon'd Diaphoretic and Diuretic,but is feldom prefcrib'd ; externallyit brings bad Ulcers to a kind of Sup-puration. Its Dofe is from 1 to
