Tinétura Corticis, Tincture ofthe Bark.
' Take of the Bark in Pouder* 5 iv. put it into a Bolt-head ; add« to it reétify'd Spirit of Wine ' xii.« fit it for Circulation, and let it in' a gentle Sand Digeftion four or' five days, fhaking it often ; then' decant the Spirit carefully into a« Phial for ufe.'
If feme hours before it is takenout of Digeftion, there be put toit of Spiritus Sulphuris per Campa-nam 5 ii. the Medicine will be muchthe better j becaufe the Acid greatlyalfifts, and adds to the roughnefs ofthe Bark, which the Tinclure takesup; and ¡ikewife by giving agreaterConfiftency to the Spirit, enablesít to fuftain more than it could by itfelf : £0 that by this management,the fineft part being taken up in theTinfture, the Bark it felf may be ina manner deeni'd to be given in Sub-nance. This is vilible by lettingibme of it dry on a clean Tile; forit will leave behind a good quantityof an impalpable Pouder. Thisway I have often made it, and foundits efficacy as well as conveniency ofAdministration, in a great many In-stances. It is bell given in RedWine, from zo Drops to 100; andto be repeated every four hours be-tween the Fits, oroftner, according»o the Urgency of the Symptoms.
Extraktum Corticis, Extracl of
the Bark.' Put ft fi. of Bark into a large
* Matrafs; add to it of the ilmplc« diftill'd Water of Wormwood' ft vi. or more : Let it boil gently' in a Sand-Heat two or three« hours j ftrain it, pour more Water' to the Bark ; boil and ftrain as' before .• put the Infufions toge-
* ther, and in a Glafi or Earthen' VeiTel evaporate to the Conüf-« fence of an Extract.'
If this, as the former, be actuatedalio with 5 i. or 5 ii. of Spirit ofSulphur, the Extract will be thebetter, and endued with the Vir-tues of the former Tincture. ItsDole is from gr. xr. to 5 i.
Preparation of Millepedes.' When they are clear'd as much' as can be from Dirt, pour White-
* Wine enough upon them, in an' earthen Pot, to cover them : then' over a gentle Heat evaporate the' Wine until they are dry enough' to pouder.*
The Evaporation mull be verygentle, left it ihould carry up any ottheir volatile Salt, with which theymuch abound. They greatly errwho pour off the Wine, and keep itfepirately, which 'tis very cuftomaryto do ; becaufe it robs the Millepedes,of a great deal, which Evaporationleaves behind. Their Dofe is fromgr. x. to 9 ii.
Vinum Millepedum, Wine ofHog-Lice.
' Take 5 iv. or a quarter of a' Pint of Millepedes alive, infufe' them in ft ii. of White-Wine,
* with 5¡. of Bnglifh Saffron ; fhak'e' them often, and let them ftand' two or three Weeks > then filter
* the Wine for ufe,'
