The plant is a native of the foutheril parts of Europe,—.producing large rough triangulär feeds, of a dark colour, adiiägreeable fmell, and a very naufeous, bitteriih, burning,tafte. They were formerly ufcd as a cathartic, but operatedwith fo much violence, both upwards and downwards, andwere fo liable to inflame the throat, that the internal ufe ofthem has long been laid afide. Oflate they have only been employed externally for the de«ftructien of vermin, either in a powder or liniment.
