Miscellanea analytica de seriebus Sf quadraturis, containinggreat improvements in series, &c.

In 1698, Mr. Richard Sault published, in 4to, A NewTreatise of Algebra, apply'd to numeral questions and geometry .With a converging series for all manner of Adjected Equations.The series here alluded to, is Mr. Raphsons method ofapproximation, which had been lately published.

In 1699 Hyac. Christopher published at Naples, in 4to,De constructione aquationum.

In 1702 was published Ozanams Algebra ; which is chieflyremarkable for the Diophantine analysis. He had publishedhis mathematical dictionary in 1691, and in 1693 his courseof mathematics, in 5 vols. Svo, containing also a piece onalgebra.

In 1704, Dr. John Harris published his Lexicon Techni-cian, the first dictionary of arts and sciences : a very plainand useful book, especially in the mathematical articles.And in 1705 a neat little piece on algebra and fluxions.

In 1705 M. Guisnee published, in 4to, his Application deI'algebre a la geometric: a useful book.

In 1706 Mr. William Jones published his Synopsis 1 J alma-riorum Mathescos, or a new introduction to the mathema-tics: a very useful compendium in the mathematical sciences.And in 1711 he published, in 4t.o, a collection of Sir IsaacNewtons papers, intitled Analysis per quantitaium series ,fluxiones, ac differentias: cum enumeratione lincarum tertiiordinis.

In 1707 was published, by Mr. Whiston, the first editionof Sirlsaae Newtons Arithmetic a Universalis: sive de composi-tion et resolution arithmetica liber: and many editions havebeen published since. This work it seems was the text bookused by our great author in his lectures, while he was pro-fessor of mathematics in the university of Cambridge. Andthough it was never intended for publication, it containsmany and great improvements in analytics ; particularly inthe nature and transmutation of equations ; the limits of theroots of equations; the number of impossible roots; the
