Le Roi écrit à Jacques van Artevelde pour le prier d’insister auprès1342 des magistrats de Bruges pour qu’ils lèvent la saisie des laines, cuirs, peauxns décembre. et autres marchandises confisquées dans le navire de maître Jean Peterman,qui, naviguant d'Aberdeen en Ecosse à Calais, avait été brisé par la tem-pête à La Rode près Kerkely, et pillé par Jean Toliller et autres habitantsde Lowestoft, comme marqué du sceau de la douane de son ennemi Davidde Bruys, et avait été réclamé par Margery de Revesdale et Jean deEcclesiâ. {IVeslminster.)

« To James d’Artefelde’. Whereas as ship of Calais, whereof John Peterman is master,» laden with wool, hides, and other merchandise, at Aberdene in Scotland in coming» thence by sea to Calais was wrecked and driven by a storm to La Rode near Kirkele,» and certain wool and other merchandise were fourni therein under the coket of» David de Bruys, the King’s adversary of Scotland, by John Toliller of Lowestoft and» other subjects, and are forfeited as the goods of the King’s ennemies, as is found by» inquisition, and although lately as the suit of Margery de Reveshale and John de» Ecclesiâ showing that a ship of his had heen arrested in the port of Bruges, which the» goods and chattels therein, by the « échevins » and burgomasters of Bruges, at the» suit of John Peterman upon prêtent of the wreckend ship and the wool and hides» forfeited to the King, and they beseeching the King to provide a remedy, the King» requested the cc échevins », burgomasters and lawful men of Bruges to cause the ship» and goods to be dearrested and delivered to Margery and John , who hâve sued for» the same before the burgomasters and others, but the hâve not liitherto cared to do» anything, as the King is informed by John and Margery; the King therefore reque.sts» James to view these présents and after considering them with the hurgomaster and» others to proceed speedily to dearrest the ship and goods, so that for lack of a remedy» it may not behove the King to provide another remedy certifying the King in chancery» of what be has done. »
