The example of the Judge seems to autho-rize the Advocate to get himself well paid for hisprevarication, and that even in the presence ofhis poor client, whose wretched condition wouldraise compassion in any hreast less obdurate thanthat of the lawyer. But Death will avenge theoppressed ; he is pouring into the hands of theAdvocate money in abundance, of which he willhave little use, for he is, at the same instant,shewing him, with an air of insult, his sand runout.
