PLATE XIIL—THE ABBE.
His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holdenby the cords of his sins. Prov. iv. 22.
Death, not contented with stripping this fatPrelate of his crosier, which he is carrying in tri-umph on his shoulder, and his mitre, with whichhe is dressing himself, is dragging him awaywithout pity. He raises his breviary with onehand, and with the other is making some vainefforts to push him off.
