‘ the parole, that We have found the Officers, whose names shall then be£ mentioned, worthy of being received into the Order, on account of their‘ prudent and gallant conduct, and that their solemn reception into the same is‘ to take place on the following day.

XXIII. ‘ That, on the day appointed, the Grand Cross authorized for that‘ purpose, shall, in a short speech, make known to the persons assembled Our‘ decision, as Grand Master, on the particular merits of the candidates, and‘ shall deliver to them the Ensigns of the Order, reading the following‘ formulary :

‘ ‘ Receive from my hands, by the Grand Master’s Royal commands,

‘ the Ensign of the Order of the Guelphs: Let it serve as a memo-‘ rial of your achievements, and of your admission into this Order,

‘ which is solely dedicated to prudence and valour.’

XXIV. ‘ Absent candidates will receive the Ensigns of the Order from the‘ hands of the nearest Grand Cross; and, if at a great distance, the Ensigns£ are to be transmitted by the presiding Grand Cross, accompanied by a special‘ letter.

XXV. ‘ That, at the completion of the act of reception, every Grand Cross,

‘ Commander, and Knight shall receive, from the Chancery of the Order, his‘ patent of appointment; and the same shall be forwarded to such as may be‘ absent by their respective agents. They are bound to make arrangements for‘ the return of the Ensigns into the Chancery of the Order at their decease.

XXVI. ‘ That the Names and Arms of all the Members of the Order,

‘ according to their several Classes, and the order of their admission, shall be in£ future affixed in some conspicuous part of the Church of the Palace at£ Hanover, as well as in the Hall of Knights within the said Palace.

XXVII. ‘ That, in order to perpetuate the memory of the Foundation of‘ this Order, We are pleased to ordain that the Festival of the same shall be‘ solemnly observed on the 12th day of August in every year, as the Anni-‘ versary of the Foundation, in Our capital City of Hanover, pursuant to the‘ ceremonial to be specially prepared for that purpose.

XXVIII. £ Forasmuch as We confidently expect from Our Chancellor of‘ the Order, and the Grand Crosses, Commanders, and Knights, that they will‘ inviolably keep the Statutes and Ordinances appointed by these presents,

£ whereby the great end which We have proposed to Ourselves in the Insti-£ tution of the Order, namely, the furtherance of Our Military and Civil Service,
