The Knights of the Guelphs likewisesurround their Escutcheons with the Circle, Motto,and Wreath, and suspend their Ribband and Crossto it . 6

The example is that of the Shield of a Mili-tary Knight of the Guelphs.

The Knights of each Class of the Order of the Guelphs, are authorized bythe Statutes to place an open faced Helmet, like that of a Knight Bachelor,over their Shield.

If a Knight Grand Cross, Knight Commander, a Cavaliere, or a Companion,be a Member of more than one British Order, he may surround his Escutcheonwith the Ensigns of each, in the manner prescribed for such Orders; and hemay likewise do so, with respect to the Foreign Orders he may have obtainedhis Sovereign’s permission to accept. A doubt formerly existed as to the placeof honour in the Achievement of Knights of two or more Orders, whethernearest to, or farthest removed from the Shield ; * 1 but it seems to be nowsettled, that the Collar or Circle of the highest Order should occur nearest tothe Shield. For the same reason, the Ensign of any British Order of what-soever degree of such Order, should be placed nearer to the Escutcheon, thanthe Collar or Ribband of any Foreign Order.
