“ Sir Claudio Vincenzo Bonnici was then duly sworn as a Knight Commander of the Order, and theRepresentative of the Sovereign having received the Ribband and Badge of the Order from the actingSecretary, was pleased to Invest Sir Claudio Vincenzo Bonnici with the same; and having received fromthe representative of the Sovereign the Star of the Order, he made his due obeisance, and withdrew.

“ At two o’clock (before the Levee) Sir Harris Nicolas, the Chancellor and senior Knight Com-mander of the Order, wearing his Mantle and Badge, received the Sovereign’s commands for anInvestiture of the Order in the Royal Closet.

“ By command of the Sovereign, General Henry Pigot was conducted with the usual reverences toHis Majesty, preceded by the Chancellor, and by Sir Charles Douglas, King of Arms of the Order(wearing his Mantle and Badge), bearing the Ribband, Badge, and Star, of a Knight Grand Cross,upon a crimson velvet cushion. A Sword being delivered to the Sovereign, and General Pigot kneeling,he was Knighted therewith, after which he had the honour to kiss His Majesty’s hand. The Chan-cellor then received from the King of Arms, the Ribband and Badge, and having presented them to theSovereign, His Majesty was graciously pleased to place the same over General Sir Henry Pigot’s rightshoulder, when he had again the honour to kiss the Sovereign’s hand ; and having received from HisMajesty the Star of the Order, withdrew.

“ General Thomas Lord Lynedoch, Admiral Sir Robert Stopford, Lieutenant-General Sir CharlesBulkeley Egerton, and Lieutenant-General Sir Hudson Lowe (but all of whom being already Knights,were not Knighted), were then severally introduced with the same Ceremony, and had the honour ofbeing Invested with the Ribband and Badge, and of receiving from His Majesty’s hand the Starof a Knight Grand Cross of the Order.

“ The Right Honourable the Lord Chancellor, the Most Honourable the Marquess of Lansdowne,K.G. ±he Right Honourable Lord Viscount Melbourne, first Lord of His Majesty’s Treasury, and otherGreat Officers of State, the Officers of the Royal Household, and several other eminent Functionariesassisted at the Ceremony.
