Interpretation of the Marks.

°f^ Grappling-irons, or double anchors, generally intendedto point out the calles or ports into which galleys mayenter.

A line of dots ........ barring the ports, denotes how

far ships may venture into the said ports.

4-} This anchor shews, that ships or galleys may enter intothe places where they are marked.

The small dots thus marked along the coast, de-

note the places where a landing may be made good.

The most remarkable places described in this work aremarked on the map in the following manner:

A Remains of a Greek edifice.

B Remains of a Phoenician ditto.

C Old tower, called Giaurd.

D Ruins of an ancient edifice and cistern.
