Leitung des Dr. J ohn H alliburton aus Halifax, vollendete seine Studien zuLondon am Guy's Hosp., erhielt das Diplom des Coli, of Surg. und trat 1812in's med. Depart. der Armee, diente Anfangs am Hosp. zu Chelsea, dann einekurze Zeit unter Wellington auf der pyrenäischen Halbinsel, kam als Stabs-arzt nach Paris, diente bis 1815 abermals zu Chelsea, begleitete die Armee in dieNiederlande und nach Waterloo, hielt sich 1817 vorübergehend in Frankreichauf, diente von 1818—21 in Chatham, Maidstone und auf der Insel Wight,wurde 1821 nach Ceylon eingeschifft und ging mit Sir Edward Paget nachIndien, trat zu Calcutta in den Dienst der Engl.-Ostind. Compagnie, wurde aber1823 auf Halbsold gesetzt und 1830 verabschiedet. Er starb zu Calcutta25. Aug. 1835. Er gab heraus: „A practica! account of the epidemic choleraand of the treatment requisite in the various modifications of that disease"(London 1833) — „Clinical illustrations of the more important diseases ofIndia " (Ib. 1833). Ferner rühren von ihm zahlreiche Artikel in verschiedeneuJournalen und Verhandlungen gelehrter Gesellschaften her, wie: „Obss. on thefilaria or thread worrn found in the eyes of horses in India" (Transact. ofthe Med. and Physic. Soc. of Calcutta, 1825, I) — „Obss. on diseases of thespieen, particvlarly on the vascular engorgement of that organ common inBengal" (Ib. 1827, III) — „ Relates to the employment of large doses of ipeca-cuanlia in dysentery " (Ib. 1829, IV) — „On the effects of bloodletting in thecold stage of intermittent fevers" (Ib. 1831, V) etc. etc.

* Tyler, Graftou T., geb. 21. Nov. 1811 in Prince George's co., Md.,studirte Med. an der Maryland-Universität und wurde dort 1833 graduirt. Erliess sich Anfangs in seiner Vaterstadt als Arzt nieder, verzog aber 1843 ausGesundheitsrücksichten nach Georgetown, wo er zum Physic. am College erwähltwurde und noch jetzt in dieser Stellung thätig ist. 1846 wurde er Prof. derPathol. und prakt. Med. am Columbia Coli, (dem jetzigen National Med. Coli, derColumbia-Univers.), sowie Prof. der med. Klinik an der Washington Infirmary.Diese beiden Aemter gab er 1859 auf. Er veröffentlichte u. A.: „Obstetricreports with observations on spontaneous evolution" (Baltimore Med. and Surg.Journ., 1841) — „Medicine as a science and an art, its philosophy, influences,purposes and results; its past and present condition and future prospects" (1852).

*Tyrchowski, Wladyslaw T., geb. 3. Sept. 1820 in Krakau, studirtein seiner Vaterstadt, wurde dort 1844 mit der Diss.: „De trichomate quodvulgo plica polonica appellatur" zum Doctor promovirt, war 1845—47 Adjunctan der geburtshilflichen Klinik daselbst, zog 1850 nach Plock und übernahm dieStelle eines Arztes am dortigen Gefängniss. 1852 wurde er Mitglied des Provinzial-Medicinal-Conseils; 1861 nach Warschau berufen, übernahm er als Prof. ord.den Lehrstuhl der Geburtshilfe und die Direction der Kliuik; 1884 wurde erpensionirt und lebt gegenwärtig als prakt. Arzt in Warschau. Er schrieb: „Ryspoloznictwa praktycznego" (Grundzüge der prakt. Geburtshilfe) (Krakau 1869).
