Unguentum Ferri Subcarbonatis. Take 5j each of subcarbonateof iron and balsam of copaiba, 5VJ of spermaceti ointment; mix, andapply to phagedenic ulcers.

Unguentum Gallje Campiioratum. Camphorated Ointment of Galls.Take 51J of galls in fine powder, ^ss of camphor, 5 j of prepared lard ;incorporate the camphor with the lard, and then add the galls.Apply as an astringent for piles after leeching and fomentations.

Unguentum Gall^e Compositum. Take 51J each of powdered gallsand solution of acetate of lead, 5J of powdered opium, Jj each ofprepared lard and spermaceti ointment. It is a good astringent forburns, scalds, hemorrhoids, &c.

Ungukntum Gallarum. D. Ointment of Galls. Take 5J of finely-powdered galls and gviij of prepared lard, to make an ointment forpiles, &c.

Unguentum Heuebori Ami. Ointment of White Hellebore. Take5 j of white hellebore in powder, Jj of prepared lard ; mix, and applyfor itch, and other eruptions, See Ung. Veratk.

Unguentum Hydrargyri. E. D. P. Take equal parts of mercury andsuet, three parts of lard; mix, till the filobules of mercury disappear.One drachm contains gr. xij of mercury. See Ung. Hydrahg.Fortius.

Unguentum Hydrargyri Ai>bi. Take 5J of the hydrosublimed mer-cury, 51J of olive oil, jiij of prepared lard; mix intimately, and applyin the same cases as the strong mercurial ointment, than which it isan equally effectual and a neater preparation.

Unguentum Hydrargyri Camphokatum. Take 3J of strong mercu-rial ointment, 5ss of camphor; mix, and apply at bed-time along thecourse of the urethra, for chordee, or to indurated tumours.

Unguentum Hydrargyri Fortius. L. Strong Mercurial Ointment.Blue ointment. V. Take ibij of purified mercury, ^xxiij of preparedlard, 3J of prepared suet; first triturate the mercury with the suetand a little of the lard, till the globules disappear, add the rest of thelard, and mix. One drachm contains gr. xxx of mercury.Chemically the mercury appears to be partly in a state of mechanicalsubdivision and partly in the form of protoxide, the latter of whichalone is the active part of the preparation. An ointment may ac-cordingly be made of more uniform strength, by incorporating gr. xxjof the black oxide of mercury with 3J of lard, at the temperature of250° Fahr. (Donovan ) See Ung. Oxid.
