Unguentum Acidi Sulphurici. D. Ointment of Sulphuric Acid.Take ^ij of prepared lard, ^ij of sulphuric acid; mix in a Wedgewoodmortar for an ointment.Medicinally it is useful for itch, gout, bronchocele, and enlarged joints;but is apt to corrode the patient's linen. (A. Duncan.)

Unguentum .ZEruginis. D. Verdigrise Ointment, or Green Basilicon.Take gviij of resinous ointment, Jiij of olive oil, 3J of verdigrise;mix, to make an ointment.Medicinally, it is stimulant and digestive for indolent ulcers, neglectedburns, &c.

Unguentum be Altiiea. Althea, or Marshmallow Ointment. Take1000 parts of oil of mucilage, 250 parts of yellow wax, 125 partseach of pure resin and turpentine; melt, and strain through linen,stirring with a spatula till cold.Medicinally it is softening and suppurative.

Unguentum Ammonite. Take 3SS of carbonate of ammonia, Jss °fsimple cerate; mix. Stimulant for strumous ulcers.

Unguentum Anti-H^morriioidale. Pile Ointment. Take jij ofsubmuriate of mercury, 5ss of solution of subacetate of lead, ^ss ofsolution of acetate of morphine, 5y of Barbadoes tar, 5J of freshlard; mix for an ointment.Or, Take ^ij of oxide of zinc, 5j of submuriate of mercury, §j of freshlard; mix for an ointment for piles, when very irritable.

Unguentum Antimonii Tartarizati. Ointment of Tartarized An-timony. Take ^jss of tartar emetic, §j of spermaceti ointment; mix.Or, Take ^ij to ^iij of tartar emetic, and 5 j of palm oil; mix.Medicinally it may be applied so as to bring out pimples, in the quan-tity of Jj daily, for deep-seated pains, arthritic swellings, and forphthisis, hysteria, mania, &c. (Jenner.) It is said to constituteMr. St. John Long's boasted cure for consumption.

Unguentum Arsenici. Arsenic Ointment. Take 5j of powderedarsenic, 5yj each of lard and spermaceti ointment; mix, and apply todestroy the surface of cancerous ulcers; but it is by no means safe.

Unguentum Auri. Take gr. j of gold, finely divided by means ofmercury, Jss of prepared lard, and mix.Medicinally it is applied by removing about half an inch of theepidermis of the neck, and rubbing in a very small portion, morningand evening, for syphilis, &c. (Niel.)

Unguentum Basilicum. P. Basilicon Ointment. Ung. resincenigra. L. Take 32 parts each of black pitch, yellow resin, andyellow wax, 128 parts of olive oil; melt the pitch and the resintogether, and add the oil and the wax ; melt, and strain through
