Take Jiv of the bark of Cinchona lancifolia, and Oij of aromaticspirit of ammonia; digest for 14 days, and filter.Medicinally it is given in doses of 5ss to ^ij, as a tonic stimulant,for atonic indigestion; but it is by no means a good preparation,as the aromatic spirit of ammonia is not a solvent of quinine andcinchonine.Tinctuka Cinchona Composita. L. D. P. Compound Tincture ofBark. Huxham's Tincture of Bark. Take 31J of the bark of theCinchona lancifolia in powder, 3j ss of dried orange-peel, 5iij of Vir-ginian snake-root, bruised, 3J of saffron, 3ij of cochineal in powder,and 3XX of proof spirit; digest for 14 days, and filter.Medicinally it has long been in great repute as one of the best prepa-rations of bark, but the new discoveries show that it is not so goodas has been supposed. The dose is 5J to Jiij or ^ss, as a gratefulstomachic in dyspepsia, and to colour infusions, &c.Tinctura Cinchonine. Neiv. Tincture of Cinchonine. Take gr. ixof sulphate of cinchonine, and Jj of alcohol, spec. grav. "847. Dis-solve.Medicinally this is given in ^ij to 5 v j» as a more efficient preparationthan any of the preceding tinctures of bark; but the TincturaQuinine is still preferable.Tinctura Cinnamomi. L. E. D. P. Tincture of Cinnamon. Take 5HJof cinnamon-bark, bruised, and Oij of proof spirit; digest for 14days, and filter.Medicinally it is given in doses of 5j to Jss, as a warm stomachic, car-minative, and astringent. It has the advantage of being compatiblewith dilute sulphuric acid.Tinctura Cinnamomi Composita. L. E. D. Compound Tincture ofCinnamon. Take 5yj of cinnamon-bark, bruised, Jjiij of cardamom-seeds, bruised, 5ij each of long pepper in powder, and ginger root,sliced, and Oij of proof spirit; digest for 14 days, and filter.Medicinally it is given in doses of 5j to 5iij> as a grateful cordial andstomachic, but it is not often used. The aromatic elixir of vitriol ismade with three parts of it to one part of diluted sulphuric acid.Tinctura Seminum Colchici. D. See Vinum Colchici.Tinctura Colocynthidis. Tincture of Colocynth. Take gjss of thepulp of colocynth, J j of anise-seeds, Jxx of proof spirit, and make atincture.
