Lobella Syphilitica. P. Blue Cardinal-flower. The root Is ca-thartic, diuretic, and emetic, and prescribed in form of decoction, Jssof the dried root to Oxij of water, boiled down to Oviij ; dose Osstwice a day in syphilis.

Locustic Acid. This is procured from grasshoppers (Locustce), anddiffers little from acetic acid.

Locatelli's Balsam. A nostrum prepared in several ways : e. g. TakeJiij of hogs' lard, 3J of yellow resin, Jj of olive oil, §jss of Veniceturpentine, ^ss of yellow wax, 5iv of dragon's-blood; melt by heat,and make an ointment.Or, leave out the resin and the lard, and use alkanet root, or redsandal-wood, to colour it; and mix with conserve of roses, forcoughs.

Lohochs, or Looks. P. or Eclegmala. A sort of thick syrups, madewith mucilaginous substances. They must be fresh made, as theywill not keep.

Loiioch Album, or Amygdalinum. P. Take Jss of blanched sweetalmonds, two bitter almonds, 5iv of white sugar powder, and addgradually Jiv of water to make an emulsion ; and mix with it in amarble mortar gr. xvj of gum tragacanth, |ss of fresh oil of almonds,jij of sugar, and at the end, 31J of orange-flower water. Expec-torant in coughs.

Lohoch ex Ovo. P. Take 5SS of fresh yolk of eggs, gjss of oil ofalmonds, §j of syrup of marsh-mallows ; mix, and add gradually5j of orange-flower water, and 31) of red-poppy syrup. Demulcentin coughs,

Lohoch de Tronchin is very similar to the Lohoch Album, with theaddition of manna, cassia pulp, and syrup of maiden-hair.

Lohoch Viride. P. or Loh. cum croco et pislaciis. Take gj of syrupof violets, Vl\_ xx of tincture of saffron, jiv of water; mix, and addJvj of dried pistachio-seeds, and make an emulsion. Then takegr. xvj of gum tragacanth in powder, Jss of oil of almonds ; mix,bruise, and add gradually the former emulsion : towards the end,add 31J of orange-flower water. Sedative and expectorant in cough.

Long's Cure tor Consumption is said to consist of nothing more thanthe tartar emetic ointment rubbed upon the chest. Mr. St. JohnLong, however, has made some show of denying this. See Anti-
