and, just before they concrete, sprinkle in the cantharides, and mix.The Edinburgh college adds two parts of subacetate of copper. Thefiner the cantharides are powdered, the more mild are their effectsin blistering; their power is also injured by heat, and great care istherefore necessary in preparing the plaster, and also in spreadingit on the leather, which ought not to be done with a hot spatula,but with the thumb. It should be applied with a piece of thin gauzebetween it and the skin, to make it more easy to take off. It shouldremain on for eight or twelve hours, but on the head much longer.The preparation will keep good for years.By boiling the cantharides in water, their blistering qualities are notdiminished, while they are deprived of the power of producingstrangury.Adulterated with euphorbium, which causes a purulent discharge.Emplastrum Capucinorum. P. Capuchme's Plaster. Take Jj eachof ammoniacum, olibanum, and mastiche, Jij of turpentine, Jiij ofnaval pitch and yellow wax, |j of prepared tutty, Jjss each of pul-verized euphorbium and pyrethrum root; mix, and make a plaster.Stimulant in chronic swellings.Emplastrum Cephalicuji. Emplastrum Cumini. L. Cumin Plaster. Take 5iij each of cumin-seeds, caraway-seeds, and laurel-berries, fciij of dry pitch, ^iij ofyellow wax. Melt the pitch and wax together, then add the otheringredients.Medicinally it is a warm discutient in chronic swellings, and appliedover the stomach for flatulence. Opium is sometimes added to it.Emplastrum Epispasticum. See Empl. Canthar.Emplastrum Euphorbii. Spurge Plaster. Take jiv of the compoundpitch plaster, 5ss of powdered euphorbium. Melt the first ingredient,then add the euphorbium in fine powder, and keep stirring it tillnearly cold.Medicinally it may be applied in scrofula of the joints: a little tar-tarized antimony is a good addition.Emplastrum Galbani. D. Galbanum Plaster. Take tbij of lithargeplaster, foss of gum galbanum, ~iv of the shavings of yellow wax.
