Elder-Berry Wine. Take one part of elder berries and two parts ofwater, boil half an hour, run the liquor and break the fruit througha hair sieve, then to every quart of juice put three quarters of apound of Lisbon sugar, boil a quarter of an hour with some Jamaicapepper, ginger, and a few cloves. Pour it into a tub, and, when ofa proper warmth, into the barrel, with toast and yeast to make itwork. When it ceases to hiss, put a quart of brandy to every eightgallons, and stop it up. Bottle it at Christmas, or in spring.

Electuaries are medicinal preparations, now more commonly calledconfections, and conserves, which see.

Electuaeium de Aloe Compositum, P. Compound Electuary ofAloes, or Hiera picra. Take 5yj each of cinnamon, mace, asarumroot, saffron, and lcntisc, Jxij of Socotrin aloes, and ftiij of honey.Mix.Medicinally it is given in doses of 3j to 3j as a warm stomachic andtonic; and as a purgative in icterus and amenorrhcea.

Electuarium de Aloe, Muriate Hydrargyri, et Ferro. P.Mesenteric Opiate. Take Jss of gum ammoniac, 3 v j of senna, 5yeach of muriate of mercury, arum root, and Socotrin aloes, 3iij eachof rhubarb and compound powder of scammony, Jss of filings of iron,bruise, and mix with double the weight of compound syrup of apples.Medicinally it is given in doses of jss to jij as an aperient and deob-struent, in obstructions of the spleen, liver, and mesenteric glands.

Electuarium de Croco. P. Hyatinthine Electuary. Take giv eachof terra sigillata (pipe clay), and crabs' eyes, ijxj of cinnamon, 5jss ofleaves of dittany of Crete, and yello ,v saunders, reduce to fine powder;then take tbjss each of Narbonne honey, syrup of capillaire, and whitesugar, with q. s. of water, make a syrup, and when nearly cold addgradually ^iij each of saffron, and red saunders in powder, then bydegrees the former powder, and 16 drops of oil of citron-peel.Medicinally it is cardiac and antacid in doses of 3J to 5SS, or more.Dr. Paris says, that out of all the ingredients, only three, the ci'abs'eyes, cinnamon, and saffron, have any efficacy.
