of Sarsaparilla, similar to the Lisbon diet-drink. Take Oiv of thedecoction of sarsaparilla boiling, Jj each of sassafras root sliced, guaiacwood shavings, and liquorice root bruised, Jiij of bark of mezerconroot. Boil for a quarter of an hour, and strain.Incompatible with lime water, nitrate of mercury, and acetate of

lead.Medicinally it is given in doses of ^iv to Jvj four times a day in secon-dary syphilis, chronic rheumatism, and cutaneous disorders, as a tonicand alterative; but chiefly as a restorative after or during a mercurialcourse.

Decoctum Scimt. Decoction of Squills, is prepared by taking 511Jsquills, 31V of juniper, giij of senega root, Oiv of water, boiling downto half, straining it, and adding ^iv of spirit of nitric ether.Medicinally it is diuretic, in doses of one or two ounces often repeated.

Decoctum Secalis Cornuti. Decoction of Ergot of Rye. Take 51]of ergot of rye, 3V1J of water, boil down to =jiv, remove it from thefire, and after a little pour it off the dregs.

Decoctum Senegje. L. E. D. Decoction of Senega. Take |J ofsenega root, Oij of water, boil down to Oj, and strain. It is pun-gent and hot, stimulant, cathartic, and diuretic, in doses of 5.jss t( >giij thrice a day in dropsy and chronic gout, and as an expectorant inasthma.

Decoctum Spaktii Cacuminum. Decoction of Broom tops. Take5J of broom tops shred, Oj of distilled water, boil down to halfa pint, and strain. It is given in dropsy, &c.

Decoctum Tamarindi. P. Decoction of Tamarinds, prepared withJij to Jiij of tamarinds to Oj of water, as an acidulant and coolinglaxative in fever.Incompatible with the salts of potass, which precipitate the tartaric acidof the tamarinds.

Decoctum Taraxici. D. Decoction of Dandelion. Take jiv of freshdandelion leaves and root, and ibiv of water. Boil down to Ihj, andexpress the strained liquor.Medicinally it is tonic and laxative, in doses of 5] to 51J thrice a day, inmorbid derangement of the liver, dyspepsia, &c.

Decoctum Tormentill^;. Take Jj of tormcntil root bruised, Ojssdistilled water, boil down to a pint and strain.

Decoctum Ulmi. L. E. D. Decoction of Elm-bark. Take jiv offresh elm-bark bruised, Oiv of water. Boil down to two pints, andstrain. It is demulcent, diuretic, and alterative, and used as a sub-stitute for sarsaparilla in secondary syphilis, lepra, and herpes, indoses of Ossfour times a day.
