Ceratum. L. Simple Cerate. Ceratum simplex is prepared by melt-ing §iv of yellow wax, adding giv of olive oil, and mixing them. Itis emollient, when applied to sores and excoriations; but is chieflyused in compounding ointments.Enters into Ung. Oxid. Zinci. E. Ung. Oxid. Zinci Impur. E.

Cebatum Album. P. White Cerate, Cold Cream, or Ceratum Galeni,is made by melting over a slow fire Jiv of white wax, with ftjof oil of almonds, adding very gradually a pint of distilled water, orrose water. It is emollient for slight excoriations, tenderness of theface, &c.

Ceratum Calamine. L. D. Calamine Cerate, or Turner's Cerate,made by melting ftss of yellow wax, with a pint of olive oil, andwhen removed from the fire, and beginning to thicken, add ftss ofprepared calamine, and stir the whole till cold. It was formerlymuch used for burns and sores, but is falling into neglect, exceptwhen combined with the solution of subacetate of lead, or nitricoxide of mercury 5j to ^j of cerate.

Ceratum Cantharidis. L. D. Cerate of Cantharides, Ceratum lyttw.L. 180Q. Is made by softening before a fire Jvj of s])ermaceti cerate,and mixing with it 5j of powdered cantharides. It is stimulantand irritative, and used to keep up the discharge from blisters.

Ceratum Carbonatis Zinci Impuri. E. Cerate of Carbonate ofZinc is the same as the calamine cerate, and made by mixing fiveparts of spermaceti cerate with one part of the carbonate of zinc inpowder. It is drying and epulotic.

Ceratum Cetacei. L. Ceratum simplex. E. Spermaceti Cerate ismade by melting 31J of white wax with ^iv of olive oil, and addingJiv of spermaceti, and stirring the whole till cold. It is cooling andemollient.Enters into Cerat. Carbonatis Zinci Imp. E. Cerat. Lytte. L.

Ceratum Cujruleum. Pharm. Leyd. Blue Cerate is made by takinggiv of litharge, which has been rendered white by rubbing it upalternately and gradually with vinegar and rose water, and meltingit with ;jiv of yellow wax, and Oss of olive oil, mixing the wholewith i-iij of smalt.

Ceratum Kinakina Medicatum. P. Cerate of Peruvian Bark ismade by melting sixteen parts of simple cerate, and mixing with ittwo parts of the alcoholic extract of cinchona, dissolved in a smallquantity of spirit. It is tonic, and is applied to languid ulcers.
