Acerate. A salt formed with aceric acid and an alkaline or otherbase.
Aceriq Acid, discovered by Scheren in the juice of the maple in thestate of acerate of lime. Not used.

Acetabulum. O. Sea Navelwort, Tubularia acetabulum. Stronglydiuretic in doses of jij in wine.

Acetas Cinchoninje. Neiv. Acetate of Cinchonine or Cinchonia, isa peculiar salt, formed by treating cinchonia with acetic acid. It isbut little used, being found of inferior efficacy to the sulphate ofquinine.
Acetas Ferri. D. Acetate of Iron. Digest §ss of carbonate of ironwith ^iij of distilled vinegar for three days, and filter.Decomposition. The protoacetate and peracetate of iron seem both to beformed in solution, while the carbonic acid gas is expelled ; but onaccount of the abstraction of oxygen from the atmosphere, the wholeof the iron is probably formed into peracetate.Medicinally it is astringent, tonic, and emmenagogue, Tl^x to ti^xx ormore in chlorosis, dyspepsia, hypochondriasis, &c. See Tinct. Acet.Ferri.
Acetas Hydhahgyri. E. D. Acetate of Mercury. Hydrargyriaacelalus. Mix jiij of purified mercury with ^ivss of nitric acid, anddigest till it be dissolved. Then dissolve Jiij of acetate of potass inftviij of boiling water, and mix both while the former is hot. Thencrystallize. All the vessels used must be of glass.—Exposure to lightblackens and spoils it.Decomposition. The protonitrate of mercury procured by the firstprocess is decomposed by the solution of acetate of potass, which,giving up its alkali, forms nitrate of potass, and remains in solution,while its acetic acid combines with the protoxide of mercury, andforms protoacetate of mercury ; both salts remaining in solution, but,on cooling, the protoacetate of mercury is deposited in the form ofwhite scales.
