Linimentum Calcis, Dub. IAnimcnt of Lime.

" Take of Lime-water, Olive-oil, of each three fluid ounces.Mix them."

These are solutions of earthy soaps, formed by the chemicalunion of the lime and the oil. They are thick, of a white co-lour, and devoid of acrimony, and are very advantageously ap-plied to burns and scalds. The soapy matter separates fromthe water, when it is kept for a little time, and therefore it isalways better to prepare it only when it is wanted.

LINIMENTUM CAMTHOR^E, Lond. Liniment ofCamphor.

" Take of Camphor, half an ounces Olive-oil, two Jluid ounces.Dissolve the camphor in the oil."

Oleum Camphoratum, Edin. Camphorated Oil.

" Take of Olive-oil, four parts; Camphor, one part. Mixthem so as to dissolve the camphor."

Oleum Camphoratum, Dub. Camphorated Oil.

" Take of Camphor, half an ounce; Olive-oil, two fluid ounces.Hub them together."

These solutions of camphor in fixed oil are very useful em-brocations to glandular swellings, sprains, bruises, and to jointsaffected with rheumatic pains. Mr. "Ware recommends themwith the addition of half an ounce of the solution of subcar-bonate of potass, to be applied to the eye-lids night and morn-ing in incipient amaurosis.

LINIMENTUM CAMTHORiE COMPOS'ITUM,Lond. Compound Liniment of Camphor.

" Take of Camphor, two ounces; solution of Ammonia, sixfluid ounces; Spirit of Lavender, a pint. Mix the solution ofammonia with the spirit; then from a glass retort, by a gentleheat, distil a pint. Lastly, dissolve the camphor in this dis-tilled liquor."

This is a very useful stimulant application to sprains, bruises,and rheumatic pains. It is also an excellent vehicle for intro-ducing opium into the habit by means of friction. An embro-cation composed of f 2j jss. of this liniment, and f ^ ss. of tinctureof opium, warmed and rubbed over the surface of the abdo-men, very quickly allays the pains of flatulent colic.

LINIMEN'TUM HYDRAR GYRI, Lond. Liniment ofMercury.

" Take of the stronger Mercurial ointment, prepared Lard,ofeach,ybwr ounces; Camphor, an ounce; rectified Spiritjj^ftTtminims ; solution of Ammonia, four find ounces. First rub thecamphor with the spirit, then with the lard and mercurialointment: lastly, drop in gradually the solution of ammonia,and mix the whole."

This liniment is stimulant and discutient. It is employed
