part m. Metallic Preparations. — Antimony. 641
It was formerly much employed in asthma, and in catarrhalaffections; but it is uncertain in its operation, and is not muchemployed in modern practice; unless when combined withmercurials, when it forms a useful alterative in herpetic andother eruptions. During its use, the patient must avoid theuse of acids and acidulous salts, as these increase very power-fully the emetic properties of the preparation. The dose isfrom gr. j. to grs. iv. in a pill, twice a day.
