Anguß-Mi Difpenfatory hath got,wherein Litharge is made an Ingre-dient, and the White oí Eggs beatinto it ; but that alio is now quitelaid afide. That which is here re-tained is attributed to Rbaßes, whofeCompofitions are generally moveuniform and fimple, than any ofthe Arabians.* But our wholefaleDealers in Medicine have learnedgrievouily to corrupt it, by uiingHogs Lard for the Oil of Rofesand Wax, which greatly fruihatesthe Intention of the Medicine as aCooler ; infomuch that it may notbe unworthy the particular care ofa Prefcriber to enquire into thisMatter, when any Strefs is laid up-on this Medicine, which is the moftcommonly ufed of any of this In-tention.

Unguentum jïgyptiacum magisCompoiîtum, A more compound-ed /Egyptian Ointment.' Take of Verdegreafe, ? iv. of* the fharpeft Vinegar, j vi. of Ho-' ney, % i. Let them all boil over' a gentle Fire to a dusky Colour ;' adding towards the latter end, of' Rock Alum, and Sal Ammonia-' cum, ana 5 fs. and make them in-' to an Ointment, S. A.'

This is verv different from that

gyptian Ointment.• Take of Verdegreafe, or ofthe green Ruft oí Brafs, finelypowdered, P. v. of Honey, P. iv.of the fharpeft Vinegar, P. vii.boil them altogether to a dueConfidence, and a dusky red Co-lour. The Scum of this Ointmentis called Mel ¿Egyptiacum, Egyp- and is a very late Contrivance.
