' Take of Turpeth, Jalap, and« Hermodactyl Roots, of Tartar« of Vitriol, each equal quantities,« and mate into a Powder, S. A.'

The mix College - Difpenfatorygives two Compofitions under thisTitle, with the Addition of Rhu-barb to one of them, which wasflill continued down to the laft ;but that hath juftly rejected one ofthe Compofitions entirely, and o-mitted feveral ufelefs Ingredientsin the other. Altho indeed Zwei-fer is fond of that with Rhubarb,as fuppoiing it is a deflroyer ofWorms, becaufe he faith the Rhu-barb effectually kills them, andthe Turpeth cleanfes away thofeCrudities and Vifcidities which ge-nerate them : but the Intention ofthat which is given here, feems tobe for very different Purpofesj be-ing chiefly defign'd for an Hydra-gogue, and to cleanfe away Vifci-dities from the Joints, and remoterParts* Its Dofe is from 9 Cs. to 3 i.

The late Reformation of theCollege- Difpenfatory hath greatlymended the Compofitions of thisClafs, both by leaving out manyinjudicious ones, and making thofèwhich are retained much more Am-ple in their Intention, and moreconvenient for making, and ufe:But yet fo little is prefcribed incommon Practice under this Form,unlefs to make into Electuaries orBoles, that many Compofitions3

here ftill retained, are very fel-dom called for, and very rarelymade.

Pulvis Anticardialgicus, A Powdetagainfi the Heart-burn.' Take white Chalk, 5 vi. Eyes' and Claws of Crabs, ana * ifs.

* Sugar-Candy, ^ Cs. Oil of Nut-

* megs gut. vi. Make them into a' fine Powder. Some put to it

* 5 vi. of Bole.'

About 5 i. of this in a Draughtof cold Water, is an infallible Cureof the Complaint its Title ex-preiTes ; and its frequent ufe, ifoften wanted, cannot be attendedwith any harm.

Pulvis Arthriticus Turnen', Turner*!Gout Powder.

c Take Turpeth, Hermodactylsj* Sena, Scammony and Dwarf El-c der Seeds, ana P. E. Powder andc mix, j. A.'

This is a good fmart Purge, andits Repetition at a proper diftance,fuppofe a Month, will go a greatway to prevent the Gout, by keep-ing the Joints and extreme Partsclear from fuch Lodgments of Hu-mors, which in Procefs of Timeoccafion a Fir. The Dofe is fromgr. xv. to 3 ii.

The Mercurius Dulcís ought tobe wellrubbedin a Glafs Mortar byitfelffirft; becaufe by the weightand minutenefs'of its Parts, it can-not be brought fine enough in mix-ture with any thing befides: And thefiner it is reduced, its Operation isalwavs
