Piluke Barbarofla.

* Take the fineftlarfe/ Rhubarb,' j ii. Diagrydium, 5 i. Qiiickfilver,4 $ fs. Musk, gr. x. make them into' a Mafs with a fufficient quantity' of Flower.'

Thefe are a!fo called Cerules, andare the Prefcription, of Herculus Sax-onia. The Mercury muft be incor-porated firft with Turpentine, afterWhich, if the Powders will notmake it fufficiently ftiff for Pills,add enough Liquoriie-Powder, in-ftead of what is here order'd. Thefe"have been a mighty Secret withmany in all Venereal Cafes, and inLeproftes and cutaneous FoulneiTes.It is certainly a very good Medicinefor fuch Pmpofes, and with conti-nue ufe will break thro' all the glan-dular Obftrattions, and force awaythofe acrimonious Humours, whichcorrode, ulcerate, and deform thecapillary VeiTcIs ; efpecially uponthe Surface, where the external Coldhelps to detain them, until they co-ver the Skin with Blotches. Thisis likewife to be depended upon innioft chronic Diftempers, efpeciallythofe which are Scrophulous. It isdirected 5 i. every day for thirtydays together. There are manyother Prefcriptions of this kind ex-tant in Physical Writers, which wehave not room for here ; we (halltherefore only give one more of thechief of them, which is from Hir-ßiui's Pharmacopxia, lib. 16.

Pilula: de Hydrargvrb Horilii,Horftius'i Mercury Pill.

' Take Mercury kül'd with Juice' of Lemons, 5 v. Aloes, 5 v.' Rhubarb, 5 ¡ii. Diagrydium, 5 ii.' Agaric, 5 i. Storax, Cinnamon,* Mace, yellow Sanders, Sarfapa-' rilla, Sa'fTafras, Musk, ana 5 is.' Honey a fufficient quantity ; to

' which add a little Oil of Turpen- tine.'

The Mercury is more convenient-ly kill'd (as it is call'd) with the Oilof Turpentine, or with a little Tur-pentine put to it. Two or threeIngredients in this Compofition,fcem to be but of little worth, yetthe whole may bean ufeful Medicineand good in moft of the Intentionswhich the foregoing (lands recom-mended for. Its Doit: is from9¡.to 3 i.

Pilula; Familiares, Family Pill.

' Take fine Aloes, 3 viii. the moft' refinous Scammony, j iv. Refin of« Jalap, Extract of Colocynth, Gam-

böge, ana j ii. Tartar of Vitriol,« Elaterium, Extract of Saffron,c Cloves, Mace, Nutmegs, Caftor,' ana § i. Arcanum Corollinum, 3 iv.e powder all that are to be powder'd,' and mix with the Extracts into a due« Confidence, withafufficientquan-s tity of theDecoction of Colocynth.'

Thefe we give in compliance tofuch who have been brought into anopinion of them, by the Commen-dation given them by their pretend-ed Author, Salmon. They mak*a good Purge enough in many chro-nic Cafes, and work with briskne/s.The Dofe is from 9 i. to Q ii.

Pilulas Diacolocynthidos, Pills ofColocynth compounded.' Take Aloes, Colocynth, Scam-' mony, Bdellium, black Hellebore,» Gum Arabic, ana 5 ii. Euphor-' bium and Nitre, ana 5 i. make' them into Pills with folutive Ho-

Thefe are in the Auguflaa Dif-penfaUry by the name of Pil. deNitro, but the Compofition has A-lexander Trallianus for its Author,who gives it under the Title it bearshere, de Hemicrania, lib. 1. cap. 12.wijere he pronounces it effectual inH h 3 purging
