But by its peculiar Property,of clearing the Nerves from all fu-perfluous Adhefions, it has greatlyobtain'd for a Strengthener of theHead and Stomach, and againftall Difeafes arifing from the Dif-orders of thofe Parts. The Dofe isfrom gr. xv. to 9 ii. but this Medi-cine is feldom made.

Pil, Melanagogae, Pills aga'mfl Me-lancholy.' Take black Hellebore, 5 ii. Co-c locynth, % iii. boil thefe in ib v.' of the Phlegm of Vitriol to the

* confumption of half : then boil

* what can be preifed out to the' Confidence of Honey, and put' to it Refin of Scammony in fine

* Powder, and keep ftirring with' a gentle Heat, till it becomes of

* a due Confidence for Pills.'

This is a very fearching Cathar-tic, and may be recommended inall obftinate chronic Cafes to ftrongPerfons. Its Dofe is from gr. viii.to 3 i. It is not fit for Children, norindeed hardly any but fuch Perfonswhom its Name declares it to becalculated for ; becaufe Maniacs,and melancholy People, as hath al-ready been obferv'd, will not bemov'd but by the ftrongeft Medi-cines : and this is fo much of thatkind,that fome Repetitions of it mayvoufe, and ftrangely bring to an ufetheir Faculties, many who havelong been without them for wantof fuch helps. But proper Altera-tives are to be iuppofed given in theIntervals : For there are not ma-ny Cafes where Cathartics aloneare to be trufted.

It may be given fromgr. xv. to 5 fs. At firft ufe it willfometimes vomit, but after a fewRepetitions it takes more down-wards.
