This is comriv'd chiefly for youngChildren, who will not be prevaiPdwith to take a Cathartic in any o-ther Form, but may be cheated withthis, the quantity of Refin not giv-ing a difcernible difference to theSugar. But this is rough Phyficfor tender Children, tho with manyit does a great deal of good, bypurging off that Slime from theirBowels, which breeds Worms, andoccafions Fevers, and a (linkingBreath. One or two of thefe is afufficient Dofe. Thofe which arefo frequently in publick Advertife-ments, are no other, whatfoevertheir Venders may pretend to.
Pills are a Form into which littleis reduced, unlefsCathartics, in offi-cinal Compofition ; the quantity ofthefe generally affign'd for a Dofenot admitting of Alteratives,bec3ufethey generally take up more room :whereas the force of a Cathartic ly-ing for the mod part in a fmall com-pafs, is conveniently included here-in, 3 fs. which makes 4,5, orí Pills, being commonly fufficient for aDofe : whereas a due Dofe of moilalteratives would amount to I«; ori o Pills. Moil things likewife in thisForm are fo very bitter and diftafle-ful, that they could not be enduredin any other, which this is capableof covering,fo as not to be difcern'd.But nothing ought hereunto to beintroduced, that is folvable by theAir, as many Salts are ; becaufe theywill run, and deftroy the Form :and likewife nothing ought to bethus mixed, that will ferment, forthe fame reafon : And upon this ac»count all volatile Salts are to be ex-cluded, becaufe they puff themup into fix times their Bulk, andmake them not poffible to be taken,as has already been hinted in ano-ther Place.
