This hath not been in any Dif-penfatory, that I know of, before,except that of Bales. It hath ob-tain'd a great Name and Efteem a-monoft fome Peifons, which feemsto have been the reafon why theCollege have now made it an Of-ficinal Medicine. The whole Pro-çefs is long and troublefome ; butthe greateft care incumbent uponthe Compounder is, that the Extractbe at firft left thin enough to re-ceive the Powers which are after-wards to be mtx'd with it, ib thatthe whole maybe of a dueConfif-tence. However this Medicine mayftand in the Opinion of many, ithath now much more Honour doneit thanitdeferves, all its main In-tentions being much better anfweredwith lefs trouble.

In the firft Difpenfatory of theCollege this is' ordered to be madeup with the Syrups of Fumitory andScabious ; but both thefe are nowrejected in the Shops : in otherreflects this Hands as it was order'4there ; and there it likewife occurs;under the Title of Eltcluarium Ama-rum Minus, in diftinction fromanother called F.leftuarium Ama-r;im Magißmlt Malus, which hathbeen continu'd thro' all the Emen-dations of the College to the prefenr,where it is thought fit to expungeit, as this alfo might now juftlyhave been, it being wholly neglec-ted in Prefcription.
