This was not received by theCollege until the Publication of thelait Difpenfatory before the prefent ;and it is here altered from that,only in fubftituting a French Spiritinitead of the Wine, wherein Rue-Seeds have been diftilled ; whichwas a Trouble without any propor-• tionable Advantage. This is outof ufe . in the Shops, but it is fogood a Medicine, and in fo conve-nient a Form, for fuch as cannot"take Boles or Eleñuaries, that it wasthought worth recommending here.It has all the Virtues of the Treacle,and by the help of the Vinegar willfometimes procure a Diafhorefis,where that fails. In thort, it is anexcellent Alexipharmic ; and welldeferves the firil Rank in Practice.It may be given from 5 ii. to' 5 ii.or iii. with any convenient Vehi-cle, or by it felf. This may alfobe enticed down with many Chil-dren, who cannot be prevailed uponwith any other Form : they maytake from 3 i. to 5 fs. In Fevers, ifno other Medicines of the fame In-tention are ufed, it ought to be re-peated every 4 or 6 Hours, accord-ing to the Exigency of the Cafe,till a Sweat rifes.

' Take of Rhubarb * ifs. of the' lefTer Cardamom-Seeds, and Saf-c fron, ana 3 ii. of Liquorife-Root' 5 fs. of French Brandy ft i. and' make into a Tinfture.'

This is ordered by Bates, witlifome Variations, but not beforenow received by the College, thothey have confiderably amended it,and particularly in throwing out theSugar-Candy and ftoned Raifins,which have nothing to do with themain Intention of the Medicine.This is given for the fame Intention,as the Root, which fee.

Tinctura Hellebori, Tinñure ofHellebore.

c Take of black Hellebore Root* 5 ii. of Salt of Tartar 51'. ofCo-' chineal 9 i. of French Brandy ft Lc Draw out the Tincture by a warm' Heat.'

This is a much more fimple Me-dicine than the T'inclura Melamptfdit in Bates, and is much more effi-cacious, there being nothing to bedepended upon but the Hellebore.The Salt of Tartar is added, as inmany other Tinctures, to open theRoot, and make ir give a Tincturethe more freely : for lixivial Saltsgreatly break and divide all adhefive,vifcid,and refinous Subilances. Thisis an admirable Medicine for manyPurpofes, but particularly it excelsin opening Uterine Obstructions ;and in fanguine Constitutions,whereSteel is hurtful, this never fails offorcing the Menilrual Difcharges.In fhort, it is a very convenientForm to give it, in all Cafes wherethe Roots do fervice. Its Dofe isfrom 20 to ICO Drops, in any fuita-ble Vehich ; fee Pari 2. Sell. 8.
