Of Wines, Tintfares, and Elixirs,

THERE can be nothing dif-ficult in the Management ofthis Part, to one who has madehimfelf acquainted with Sen. 6, 7,and 8. of Part i. concerning Di-gefiion, Diffolution, and the Diffe-rence of Menflruums. And as al-moft the whole of the Materia Me-dica is conveniently enough, uponmany accounts, reducible into thefeForms, this Divifion will exhauft agreat fhare of this Part.

This has been a celebrated Eme-tic, but is now almoft out of ufefor its Roughnef^ Its Dofe is from5 ii. to | i. The many Philofophi.cal Conjetures about the Wineobtaining from fuch minute Inftru-ments fuch efficacious Properties,is not to our purpofe here to med-dle with ; as it lets us no more intothe Preparation of the Medicine,nor the Operation of it upon ourBodies. The Glafs mud always have a lit-tle Vent given when fhook, elfe it,will endanger burning. The quan-tity of Saffron herein is much al-tered for the better, for before itwas but gr. viii. to ft ii. of Wine.This is an admirable good Medi-cine in the green Sicknefs, whereChalybeates are proper ; it alfo won-derfully conduces, with Bitters, toremove all ill Habits that proceedfrom obftruftedFi/cerj : and nothingis preferable to it in the Jaundice.It may be taken from J ii. to 7 ¿v.once or twice a day, when the Sto-mach is moft empty ; and the moreExercife is ufed with it, the moregood will it do.

Vinum Scilliticum, Wine of Squil.s.

' Take Squills dried ft i. infufe« them in ib viii. of White Wine' fourteen Days, and then drain out' the Squills, and keep the Wine' for ufe.'

This is as gentle an Emetic as theVinegar of Squills, but it is moreasjreeable to cold weak Stomachs.After fometime ufing this Medicine,it will not vomit, but irritates juftenough
