Herein is avoided the needlefsTrouble of a double Diflillation, asorder'd in the former College Difpen-fatory ; and the Piony Seeds are o-mitted, as of no ufe in a Compofi-tion of fuch an Intention, tho fomeParts of the fame Plant agree wellenough therewith. The Sweets alfoare left at difcretion, becaufe inmany Purpofes they are difagreeableto the main end of the Compofi-tion ; proving to fome particularConftitutions the oppofite to a Cor-dial, or a Cephalic, which this Me-dicine is in the higheft degree. Thishas long been celebrated in all ner-vous Cafes, and is now greatly ufedin the Shops, In the Decays ofAge, and convulfiveand apoplecticShocks, fuch as bring on Palfies andLQfs of Memory,this is of very goodfervice, and has been fo much re-mark'd for fuch Efficacies, as almoftuniverfally to obtain the Name ofPalfy-Drops. It may be takenfrom 20 to 100 Drops at a time.The beft way is upon Sugar, andletting it gradually diflblve in theMouth ; becaufe by that Means itfoaks more immediately into theNerves, and gives a more fuddenfupply to the Spirits, than when itis diluted by any Vehicle, and car-ry'd with it into the Stomach.

Spiritus Alkermes, Spirit of Alker-mes.' Take Spirit of Cinnamon, Ci-* trons, Black-Cherries, and Rofe-' mary, ana j ¡v. Juice of Kermes' § ii. Sugar 1 ii. Mix all well toge-' ther, and let them ftand to fettle' a proper time ; decant off clear' by Inclination, and filter the' Remainder. To the whole add' ten Leaves of beaten Gold, broke' fmall ; and keep for ufe.'
This is a mighty grateful Cordial,and by the Virtues of its refpeftiveIngredients cannot but be good inall Intentions where the Spirits areto be rais'd, and the Nerves ftreng-then'd : and from the Kermes it isfuppos'd to be particularly ufeful inaffifting Delivery. It may be taker»at difcretion.

This is now receiv'd into theCollege Vifpenfatory, with doublethe Quantity of Spirit, and is re-commended in fuch internal Ufesas the Camphire is known to begood for, which fee under Seil. 6.Part. 2. but it is fe'.dom prefcribedexcept outwardly againft Inflamma-tions, and to difperfe Humoursfrom Contufions, and RheumaticPains. It is alfo good in ParalyticNumbnefs, being extremely pene-trating.
