388. ChjErefolii, Chervil,is the Cerefolium Sativum of Parkin-fin and Gerrard, and the Chirephyl-lonoi J.Bauhine. It grows in theGardens, and flowers in May. Itis recommended for opening theUrinary Paflages, promoting theMenfes, and fuch like Intentions,but is now very feldom prefcribed.Myrrhis, Sweet Cecily, is of thefjme Kind and Virtues.

380. Fragaria, Strawberry.This Fruit is too well known to■want Defcription; and is mode-rately cooling and cleanfing, chieflyby Urine.

390. Kali, Glafs-wort. Thishas its Engliflj Name from thepungent and almoft cauftic Saltwith which it abounds, of the na-ture of the Ciñeres Clavellati, orPot-Alhes, which is fo much ulèdin Glafs-makinj. This Herb has noplace now in Medicine, unlefs inexternal Application ; for as it is

391. Persicaria, Arfmart.It grows in watry Places, and flow-ers in July and Augufl. It is aliocalPd Hydropiper, or Water-Pepper.Paracelfus is very prolix in his Ac-count of it, but feems not to di-ftinguifh it from the Perßcaria mitisfeu maculofa, by his laying that theSpots in the Leaves are Demonftra-tionswith him of its Efficacy in theScurvy, which ibmetimes throws outSpots of the fame Colour, He like-wifedire£b ibmeodd Circumftances,by which he pretends it will obtain amagnetic Virtue, of great force infome Chirurgical Cures. It is ex-tremely hot and penetrating, info-much that the Tafle is hardly tole-rable upon the Tongue. This hasmade it obtain in fcorbutk cafes, hy-pocondriac Affections, and all Dis-orders from a iluggifh Circulation ofthe Fluids. Etmuller fays, the Zng-lißjhave it fo much in efteem, asto ufe it in the Belly-ach, Cholles,Scurvy, Spleen, and all chronicalDifeafes; but the prefent Genera-tion is little acquainted with it,either in the Shops or extemporaryPrefcription, for fuch Intentions. Avery eminent Perfon indeed of ourown Country, Mr. Boyle, com-mends its diftill'd Water greatly inthe Stone, in his Ufefulnefs of Expe-rimental Philofophy. And in thatOpinion he agrees with many, whohave valu'd it amongft their Se-crets, for its Efficacy in fuch Cafes.
