61 . Cardamomi, Cardamoms, ave a Seed diftinguifned by Bota-nifts by different Names, accordingto their various kinds. The Carda-■momum majus offic. which comesfrom fava in India, is hardly evermet with in the Shops, but the Grainsof Paradife are fubflkured for it.

The --------- . Minus offic. of Bor.lius

But the ■ ------ Maximum ot Gerard,

the Melleguetta of Johnfon, theFaradifi offic. of Cafpar Bauhine, and Grana Paradiji of Parkin^fen, arc common Grains of Para-dife.

62. Lauri Bacc/e, of Bay-Berries. Thefe are the Fruit of anaromatic oily-leav'd Tree, verycommonly known. The LaurusAlexandrina, fruclu pedículo infi-dente, of Cafpar Bauhine, is the

fame as the Hippoglojptm : the ----

Alexandrina fruclu, folio infidente, tho' laid to be Vulnerary and Diu-retic, is not ufed in the modernPharmacy ; nor is the Laurußinus,or Wild Bay-Tree, now in any o-ther Efteem, than for Ornament inGardens.

Thefe all agree in their Carmina-tive Qualities, and are therefore fre-quently uièd in Compoiitions ofthat Intention ; as alio in Glyfters, and difcutient Topics. The Anife-Seed was fo much in favour withHelmont, as to obtain the Namefrom him of Solamen Inteftinorum. The Coriander, as they da not fi>much abound with Oil as the other,fo they a;e more drying, and there-fore frequently ufed for that Inten-tion. The Cardamoms of bothkinds are much hotter, and uponthat account fhnd frequently inComposition with the Simples ofthe foregoing Clafs; and are alioaccounted Provokers to Venery. TheCummin have a difcuflive Plaiilerfrom their Name, in the College-Difpenfatory.

03. ANGELicA-Roots are like wifevery efficacious in this Intention;cfpecially thofe from Spain, whichare wonderfully difcuffive, and of a

fragrant Flavour.
