In this Part indeed we have been affified by Dr. Friend,whofie Prasleftiones Chymiœ have been fo much to our pur-pofie, that they have been almofl wholly tranflated into it ; andwith the addition of fame Explanations peculiar to the Galeni-cal Pharmacy, they make up our Ftrft Part.
The Descriptions of the Officinal Simples are now en-larged, not only with the Synonymes given in the Catalogueto the laß intendment of the College Diipenfatory, butlikewife with all thofe ufed by Authors of Note. In thislikewife it hath been thought fit to take notice of all in thatCatalogue, altho jome of them are now in difiufie. In theirPreparations by the Chymical Pharmacy, many that are men-tioned by jome Authors are omitted. The extenfive and ex-travagant Pretentions from Gold, and fame other fuch Sub-flances, are entirely left out, and only finch prefirv'd as areof real fervice, and worth keeping in the Shops. And tothe Preparations of Mercurials, Chalybeates, &c areprefix'd jhort Explications of the Manner of their Operation.And the feveral Vegetable Simples are diflributed into Clajfes,anfwering to fio me general Denomination ofi Cephalics, A-lexipharmics, Diuretics, and the like ; to each ofi whichDivifions is alfio prefix'd an Account ofi their Operations,and fuch Directions as are proper to the peculiar Manage-ment.
The Officinal Medicines are now entirely according tothe Standard of the College \ becaufe a due Conformitythereunto in the Shops, is abfiolulely necejfiary : tho Libertyis taken in the annexed Remarks, ofi obferving with Sub-mififion to future Revifals, wherein fiome farther Altera-tions may be made for the better. To thefie are added fuchas are worth recommending from other Difpenfatories ;which are diflributed into Divifions by themfelves, andmark'd from whence taken.
