Cortex Sassafras.

Sassafras officinale Nees. Lauraceae Perseoideae Litseeae.Bestandteile: Ätherisches Öl [enthält: Safrol 1 ), Pinen (s. S. 164),Phellandren (s. S. 181), d-Kampfer (s. S. 285), Eugenol (s. S. 346)].

-" Safrol, C 10 H 10 0 2 (Shikimol), ist eine farblose oder schwachgelblich gefärbte, schwach nach Fenchel riechende Flüssigkeit vomspezifischen Gewicht 1,108 (15°). Sie siedet bei 233° und erstarrtbeim Abkühlen zu einer Kristallmasse, welche bei -4-11° schmilzt.Safrol ist der Methylenäther eines dihydroxylierten Allylbenzols vonder Formel' 2 ):
