This preparation is the Mercurius corrcßvus ruherof the former Difpenfatory. Its fparkling appear-ance, which is ccnfidered as a teft of its genuine-nefs and frrength, is prefently loft if the Caix is notremoved from the iire foon after it has acquired it.Ifadulteration with rninium is fufpefted, it is dif-covered by, the duller hue, but: more certainly byburning fome of it in a fpoon ; when the pure willdefiagrate entirely, the adulterated will leave theminium or other impurities behind.

It ischiefiy ufed by the Surgeons, as a cathaeretic,in applications to foul ulcers, or to their callousedges, and to corrode what is called fungous flefli.
