Foxglove is an indigenous trienhial plant, growing wildin woods, on heaths, and under hedges ; and juftly rankedamong fuch as are poifqnous. Theleaves are oblong, acu-minated, and fomevvhat hairy, vvith a thick, angular, hollovv,ftalk, on which numerous purple tubulous flowers, refem«.bling thefingerof aglove, hang downvvards, in a rov/ alongone iide,—each on a fliort pedicle. It flowers in May orJune. (L.M.M.) The leaves, which Dr. Wähering ad-vifes to be gathered after the flowering frem has fhot up, andabout the time that the bloßöms are Coming forth, (Bot. Ar~rangem. It is in truth one of thofe medicines, of the efFeßs ofwhich, as Lewis jußly obferves, little can be judged fromthe tafle, being not near fo acrid or naufeous as many otheryegetabiss y/hich are taken with great fafety.
