That roll has perished; hut the Paolis, withthe perspicacity of a Leibnitz, and the industry of aMuratori, have collected several ancient documents,of which this abridgment allows but culling afew, chiefly English, as well as can be made out ofnames that are strangely traduced into Italian, orLatin, or old French. A more accurate eye willdiscover others—to the glory of our most illustriousfamilies—under their horrible disguises.
