The Turkshad thrown down, or converted into stables, all thehospitals of the Christians and churches, except theHoly Sepulchre for pilgrims, and the Temple turnedinto a mosque . 3 Circumstantiality is a dangerousthing; and he that hazards it, may lose his creditas an historian—leaving himself open to the accu-sation of dealing rather in fancies than realities,because he could not possibly be present. But thiswould put an extinguisher on all history, since
