PLATE XLI.—THE OLD MAN.

JHere we see Death leading away, playing on a psaltery, anOld Man to the brink of the grave, bent under the load ofyears, and verging to the last degree of frailty. The Old Manallows himself to be carried off, with that calmness and trän-quillity, which are the effects of wisdom, and the fruits of agood conscience.

Spiritus meus attenuabitur, dies mei breviabuntur, & solummihi superest sepulchrum. Job xvii. 1.
