JLJeatii here is exercising his power on one of his most fertiledomains. He himself is breaking the mast of a ship violentlytossed by the tenipest, and throws all the passengers into themost fearful despair. One alone we can distinguish, near theraast, who preserves the tranquillity of mind which, in thegreatest danger, a good conscienoe yields to firm and intrepidminds; his head has all the features with which Socrates is usuallyrepresented.
