DEATH S DOINGS.

As for justice, it is an obsolete term, thought bysome to signify the largest fee; many doubt itsexistence on earth, and compare it to the perpe-tual motion, the philosopher's stone, the grandelixir, or any other chimera of the imagination.

It may well be said, that what is one man'smeat is another's poison; since it is found thatthere are those of so perverse a disposition, thatthey cannot live without litigation, and must behandling the net of the law till they get entangledin its meshes. Characters of this descriptionare principally found in country places, wherecauses spring up as fast as weeds, and aresure to encumber the richest soils; then there isthe game—what a prolific source of envy, hatred, and malice is the protection of game ! How manywrongs do the rights of man generate! What acause of bitterness to a sportsman is the full bagof a permitted shot!

From a box of game may have sprung evilsalmost as various as those which issued from thatof Pandora; and while the London epicure is pick-
