Prefaces may he jufily allowed, when they are employed to explain Articles,that have not been difiinCtly enough expreffed in the Work, or to confirm No-tions therein advanced, which upon fécond Thoughts, may fieem to want the Autho-rity of farther Proofs -, hut the End of them, mofl ingenuous in the Writer, andmofi beneficial to’ the Reader, is, when Errors are retraCled, if any fuch ap-pear upon a Review ; and indeed it would he a criminal Piece of Vanity topatronize or vindicate them. Since the printing this Regifier, the Editor received Notice, that Mr. Alia-mole had made fome Citations in the Margin of his Copy, lodged in the Mu-{cum in Oxford, and the learned Keeper of it, upon his Application, wasvery kindly pleafed to communicate the following ExtraCfs. In them are con -tamed the Names of feveral Companions of this Order, which Mr. Afhmoldfound mentioned in the Regiftrum Chartaceum, that the Compiler of thisBlack-Book through Hafie or Inadvertency totally omitted -, which French Re-gifier being now lofi or mifiaid, thefe Additions are here puhlißed under theproper Tears of the Sovereigns, to which they relate, and with References tothe Pages of this Edition, wherein thefe Years' are contained.
