The 12th of August, being the Birth-day of the Prince Regent, the actualFounder of the Order, it was appointed for its annual Festival, and the Statutesallude to a special Ceremonial which was to be prepared, shewing the mannerin which the Anniversary was to be solemnized at Hanover; 1 but nothingappears to have been done on the subject.

The Motto of the Order, Nec aspera Terrent, is that of the Arms ofHanover; and refers to the Horse not being deterred by the roughness of theground, from pursuing his course, conveying the lesson, that no difficultiesshould check the ardour of a soldier’s courage, or be allowed to interferewith the performance of duty.

of the Order, which is H inch in diameter, has on one side the Horse ofHanover, under the Motto, nec aspera terrent, within a circle, inscribedSIGILLUM ORDINIS GUELPHICI.
